advice..
RE the post by wwbanks101, First, I am sure I have broken this 'ere message board as it will not take an add-on reply, only a new post. But anyway, I digress., My advice is to lash out yer loot and go and buy yourself a box full of Paradox9 which will enable you to use the Access manuals as winter fuel., It's simply a question of whatever turns you on (in the database world of course) and if Access really drives you bonkers then why bother with it? Must go now, my Access bonfire is going out...

Drums...!
Whilst looking for inspiration for a current Paradox project I noticed that our mentor Mike A Prestwood has "drums" listed as an interest., I assume he doesn't mean the 45 gallon variety so can I tempt him into cyber print by saying that even in the UK we are not that out on a limb as amongst others I own a Radio King snare, I am intrigued - tell me more Mr Prestwood !

Well, the one just above didn't, because at that time I hadn't yet made the change to my profile. But, now that I have changed the email address in my profile, I did indeed receive notice today of a reply to another post., , My best guess is the mail server at my home/student account rejected the messages because of some spam-blocking software.

Great looking web site. Here is some feedback:,
, ,
The yellow text on light green doesn't work well. Probably should be a dark color ("the Welcome").,
The light blue text on dark blue doesn't work well...hard to read. The yellow does work well on the dark green. Perhaps change the light green to white.,
, , Otherwise, a very good looking web site. I particularly like the subtle use of 3D (not overwhelming).

State of the Ark - Hollerith machines
History time. Having just finsished a large, and sometimes doomy, but nevertheless facinating book entitled "IBM and the Houlocast" - I don't think I'll be buying anything IBM in future... , But in terms of database technology how did the Hollerith system actually work - as there were numerous types of machines such as tabulators, alphabetizers, printers, sorters, punchers etc etc. What would a 'basic' machine setup comprise? Could the punchcards be reused or repunched?, Having read the book I am just interested., rt

Trouble at mill?
Have you been having problems with the boards or server thingies as for the last couple of days it has been taking what seems like hours to load the boards? Other web pages seem to behave as normal and there is no difference if I use another ISP. , By the way 'trouble at mill' is some strange olde north of England expression which appears to mean 'trouble at mill'and probably of the cotton variety during the industrial revolution when CPM was invented., rt Roll Eyes

A little moan..
In a previous life I seem to recall that before their very smart upgrade the boards used to have a 'print topic' button which would spew out the topic in a condensed printer friendly format sans menu's etc. , , Whereas now (unless I am going bonkers, which is of course quite feasible) the print 'Print Page' button does just that including all the stuff down the left-hand side which in turn makes for mininal margins etc and the odd bits missing from the right-hand side, which is in turn a bit of a pain., I , Otherwise I think the new look and obvious hard work put in by Mike and the team has produced a very superior site., rt :)

You're correct. Big Grin! That code was left out of this upgrade. I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to find it and add it back in., , I was really focusing on the who's online add-in feature. Now that Now that's in place and working (great feature), I can add some more.

What to Program
Ok I'm sure people have had this problem before, just wondering what is to be done. I am a professional mainframe programmer that "dabbles" in PC/internet programming as a way of keeping my sanity... So I have found this great new language to program in, and really want to work on something that might actually get used sometime by at least one or two people... , , The problem I run into is that while I am fairly good with the actual technical part of programming, my imagination sucks, and I just can't think of anything to work on., , I'm not looking to make any money with this. I just have this great new language to work with, and nothing to "show off" my new found skills., , What do other people do in this situation? please tell me I am not alone in this Big Grin!, , - Brian

I should have mentioned that I have also been an instructor for all 3 products and SQL Server. I have taught over 2000 students, from developers, to mom and pop shop owners. Access is easily more intuitive than the other products in navagation, forms, reports and queries. It is also heavily supported in books conferences, forums, etc. I am also a realist, when Access was bundled with Office that was death of the other products. You can argue monopoly, but that won't help you as a developer. More importantly as Access/VB and SQL become more intertwined it will open up advancement chances that benefit the user. That will never happen with the other products

Warning: Beware of the Code Red IIS Worm
Warning: Beware of the Code Red IIS Worm, , , If you are running an IIS server you need to install a new patch from Microsoft to protect against the "Code Red" worm. This worm has infected an estimated 300,000 IIS web servers (including one server here at Prestwood). The symptom is that the text "Hacked by Chinese" will appear on your webpages. Rebooting will clear the worm, but your server will remain vulnerable to reinfection., , , Instructions for installing the patch can be found at the following URL. The recommendation is that all users of Windows NT and Windows 2000 install the patch even if they are not actively using IIS to host pages., , , http://www.digitalisland.net/codered/

Voice chat program that allows use of other audio
I'm lookin' for a voice chat program that will still allow me to use other audio programs. I've tried netmeeting, yahoo and roger wilco, but all of these capture the phone card. Using two sound cards (one for the messenger, the other for the computer) works, but unfortunately it is not an option. Anyone seen any similar programs out there?

Networking with TCP/IP
Does anyone know why the dial up connection window would be popping up every time I try to print to a network printer?, , We have our Windows 98 Network running with static IP address, including the network printer. However, when anyone tries to print to the Network Printer the dial up connection window pops up as if you were trying to connect to the internet. But you're not, you just want to print something. And until you press the cancel button on that window it halts the sending of the print job to the network printer., , Any ideas on how to get rid of this problem, without messing up the ability to actually connect to the internet when I want to?, , Thanks!

You know what's so geat about the old style sneakers? If you step in any BS, HS or DS, you can throw them in the washing machine. Usually though, the sneakers go back on one's feet a lot like the glove went back on OJÆs hand, which some might consider BS.

Socket under windows.
Hi,, , Does anybody know any solution for this problem? My delphi program creates a lot of socket servers(TServerSocket), but under windows 98 it doesn┤t work well. If my program creates more than 15 socket servers, the program returns a error message (WSAENOBUFS), that means there is no more buffers available to allocate socket listener. But, in windows XP pro, i don┤t have this problem. Does anybody know a solution for this problem?, , Thank you very much.
