paradox 9 tables to mysql
Does anyone know how to convert paradox 9 tables into mysql? If so is the conversion simple and does paradox have a built in function or script that can be run to do this? Which tables are more stable for alot of users and records being accessed per day Paradox or SQL , Big Grin!

paradox date fields...
I use this code to update my paradox dbs canceled and inspected date fields , (SQL = "Update New_Order2 set InspectedDate = {" & Request.Form("isd" & intR) & "}, " & _, "CanceledDate = {" & Request.Form("cd" & intR) & "} where " & _ , "FileNumber = '" & Request.Form("ref" & intR) & "' "), it updates correctly to the database, however, if someone goes back to update that file again, the dates change from 2001 to 1901...does anyone know why when I update a file more than once it changes the date format from say 1/1/2001 to 1/1/1901?, thank you Big Grin!

Re: ftp and paradox files locking up
I actually think I know what the problem may be...The Rochester server's .net file(13K) is pointed to their C:/, shouldn't this file be pointed to my servers C:/, within the BDE Administrator/configuration, /native/paradox? where the Net Dir is pointed to C:/??? Since the Rochester server cannot locate the .net file that matches the record, it assumes it is in use and therefore locks the file from users on their network. Does this sound correct?, thanks , john c

indexes...
I am running into a really weird problem. I have 2 separate dbs that are mirror images of one another, 1 is live data, the other is a copy that we use on the web to update records, then update to the live db...i never get any errors when i update fields on the web to the copied db, however, when linked the live db to the web, as soon as i updated a date field, i got an index out of range error...and i had to rebuild the dbs..., Is there anything that i am doing wrong or any reason why errors would occur to the live db and not the copied db, when i am updating the same fields on the web???, thanks Confused

script help...
Hello all. Can anyone out here help me. I am writing a script(batch file), i guess similar to a scheduler, which should be able to update 1 copied database(New_Order) 3 times a day, once at 7am, then at noon and lastly at midnight from our main database(Order)...i am using a Windows NT machine, could i do this directly in Paradox or would i have to use some sort of scheduler? Can anyone help or get me started???, thanks , jc Eek!

You should also know about windows NT's built-in scheduler - the at command. I use it whenever I need to schedule automated database backups on an NT server or workstation.

ftp/asp headache...
I wrote an ASP program that utilizes an FTP download feature, grabbing files that are stored in a paradox database and places them wherever the user wants on their hard drive. My question and problem is that our Users that download the files from our NT server have no problems opeing the files when download, however our users that grab files from our windows2000 server cannot open the files until the Web Server(Windows NT where i installed IIS and host the website) is reset, apparently the files get locked up, Paradox assumes the users are opening the files from its current location, but they are just grabbing a copy of the files from my website and storing the file on their hard drives...any ideas why this locks up only on the windows 2000 server...thanks

new insert...
I have 2 paradox tables, one which is the main table called Orders and the Clients.db that contains all client information. In my Orders.db table, I ahev several fields, but one field named ClientName is always left blank, because we use a clientcode that relates to the Clients.db and that associates the clientname when i run a sql. Anyway, I would like to know if there is a insert/update script/SQL query I could write and run that will insert all clientnames from the clients.db into the blank spaces in the order.db as they match the clientcodes...i wrote this little sql insert, but it does not work correctly, i tried to modify it so paradox understands it, but no answers...help please..., INSERT , into Orders(ClientName), SELECT , ClientName, from Clients where Clientcode = Clientcode;

So..., , Aren't you adding the CLIENTNAME to records in the ORDERS table that already have a corresponding CLIENTCODE?, , , This would require an UPDATE statement, not an INSERT, and it would go like this (genericaly in SQL):, , , UPDATE ORDERS, SET CLIENTNAME = (SELECT CLIENTNAME FROM CLIENTS, WHERE CLIENTS.CLIENTCODE=ORDERS.CLIENTCODE), , , , , For Paradox, substitute the correct syntax for the TABLENAME.FIELDNAME references...

Re: ftp
thank you, i actually figured out where i went wrong at...i configured everything properly, but when i set up the ftp connection in IIS, i forgot to give it a unique name, i named it the same folder name as the 1st link, so it couldn't find it...i guess it was sore eyes and not being able to find the answer after looking at the screen so long. But what you gave me is the correct path also. Thanks alot. you guys are a big help. finally, i received a message asking how am i using paradox and ftp together, it is rather simple, i create the link to the folder with my paradox database in IIS(Internet Information Server), then I simply do a search and replace for the field name i want to grab, which is a file extension field. (example: fieldname is DOSFILENAME and the record would have something like this, /Data/Paradox/00232125 and the FTP would then know where to grab the file and which one to get because of the unique filenumbers i set..., thanks, john c

importing/exporting features...
I wanted to know is there a built in function within Paradox that would automatically run the import function at a specified time and day. Or since i am using Windows Nt, would I have to use the scheduler and would this work with Paradox? , and second, when using the ADD feature, is their a way I can add and update records from one db to another (that contain the same fields) but not update 1 particular field or do i have to write an sql to do this? For example db1(lastname, firstname), db2(lastname, firstname) but only update all 1st names when using the add or import feature..., thank you,

insert
I wrote an SQL statement to Insert all fields but 1 from table1 into table2, however, when i run the SQL the final table either does not change or puts blank fields where info should be. , INSERT , into table1(FileNumber, EDITrackingNo,, InspectedDate, CanceledDate, OrderDate), SELECT , FileNumber, EDITrackingNo, CanceledDate,, OrderDate, from table2 where OrderDate > "1/1/1999", I do not wish to overwrite table1's InspectedDate, however I need to grab all records from table2, which contain blank records in the InspectedDate field. But like I said it either overwrites exisiting InspectedDates in Table1 or puts blanks in the fields when the SQL is run...any ideas?, thank you,, jc

batch files for paradox 9
Hi all. I have been to this site numerous times and you guys have helped me out in the past month, therefore, I have another question for ya. We use another product that utilizes Paradox dbs...I was wondering if there was some way that i could write a batch file that exports info from this software and stores the data into a paradox database that i create or would i have to do it manually by say the import function in Paradox. thanks jc

If it's a Paradox database, you should be able to just query their table and do an insert into your own., , Matthew

secondary indexes...
I developed a website in ASP, using javascript, vbscript, SQL and Paradox 9. However, when i try to update certain fields from a form in my site, I get an "index out of date" error in Paradox. Index Version does not match table version. Secondary Index AssignOrders is out of date, Secondary Index StatusListing Index is out of date, Secondary Index OName is out of Date, etc. Can someone help?

Re: secondary indexes...
I am using an ODBC driver{Intersolv 3.11 23 bit paradoxfile(*.db)} I actually redesigned a existing appraisal software program offered by Polaroid/ACI Development called Rapid Track, for the web. So there are multiple users doing work in Rapid Track as well as my web program all updating the server. I figured that this may cause a crash and leave the dbs unstable...but i thought if my web program locked users out of certain files kinda like Paradox uses the .lck file and doesn't allow users to edit tables while others are in it, this would solve some problems...or add a delay to my program where the files get updated every 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Any Suggestions? Thank you.

Re: secondary indexes...
i wrote an ASP program connecting a Paradox DB to my webpages. Is there a funtion i can use similar to the .lck files created in paradox, that can lock a user out of a file while someone is editing or viewing it on my webpage? I think this will solve the above problem i am having, because the system crashed yesterday while i was writing code and checking records on the web and someone was using the same file in paradox., thank you
