SQL Query
Suppose I have a table that looks like, , ID CAR1 CAR2 CAR3 ..., --------------------------------------, 001 HONDA PONTIAC FORD, 002 NISSAN TOYOTA HONDA, 003 MITSU MAZDA NISSAN, , etc..., , I want to build a query that retreives the total number of occurances of each type of car. For example,, , CAR COUNT, --------------, HONDA 2 , PONTIAC 1, NISSAN 2, MITZU 1, FORD 1, TOYOTA 1, MAZDA 1, , I know how to do it if there is only one column of CAR, however, I'm not sure when you have mulitple columns.

Similar Data in Multiple Columns
Suppose I have a table that looks like, , ID CAR1 CAR2 CAR3 ..., ---------------------------------------, 001 BLUE RED YELLOW, 002 BLACK YELLOW, 003 RED, 004 WHITE BLUE SILVER, 005 GOLD BLACK, 006 BLACK, , Some records show only 1 color, some 2, and some 3., , I want ot build a query that returns the count of all occurance of each color. For example, the query would return, , COLOR COUNT, --------------, RED 2, YELLOW 2 , BLACK 3 , WHITE 1, GOLD 1, BLUE 2 , SILVER 1 , , Any Idea how to do this?, , Thanks

Re: UNION on 2 Tables
I'm pretty confused here. I've actually been playing with this one a lot and just don't understand it. First of all,, Access doesn't seem to like the 'LEFT OUTER JOIN' statement. And, shouldn't there be another 'ON' expression that goes with each JOIN operation? Isn't a JOIN used like,, , table1 JOIN table2 ON t1.x = t2.x, , Is see the 'ON' expression for the INNER JOIN operations but there isn't one for the LEFT OUTER JOIN operations., , , Eventually, this query is made using the MFC CDaoRecordSet from within a C++ App. For right now, I'm just trying to do it from within Access., , I am using JET with Access2000. Does this have anything to do with it?
